How Hollowbrook works

Designed on paper, built on site.

Most yards are built one piece at a time: a patio one summer, a bed the next, lighting when someone remembers. The pieces rarely line up. A plan for the whole property keeps them in line, even when the first phase is small.

Ask how design and build are handled together, and how a change found on site is raised with you. Hollowbrook will explain its process at the consultation.

4 Stages most design-build projects move through: design, proposal, build and walkthrough.

How a project runs

From first visit to final walkthrough.

A typical design-build sequence. The business will confirm how its own projects run.

  1. Design consultation

A walk of the property and a conversation about how you want to use it.

  2. Plan & proposal

A drawn plan, materials, and a written scope with pricing from the business.

  3. Build

Work follows the agreed scope. Ask how changes found on site are handled.

  4. Walkthrough

Walk the finished work and ask about care for new planting.

When to build

Every season does different work.

Landscape work follows the ground and the weather. Planning in the quiet months means the build can start when the ground is ready.

Winter

Plan

Design consultations, drawings and material choices while the yard is dormant and the schedule is open.

Spring

Build & plant

Hardscape as the ground firms up, then planting once the soil warms.

Summer

Light & enjoy

Patios in use, lighting added, and new plants watered through the heat.

Fall

Plant & prepare

A strong planting window, new lawns, and drainage fixes before the ground freezes.

Timing depends on your region, the weather and the schedule. The business will suggest when your project is best started.

★★★★★

We had a bare backyard and no idea where to start. The design meeting gave us a plan we could build in two phases, and the patio went in exactly as it was drawn.

Tom Becker
★★★★★

Water used to sit against our foundation every spring. They regraded the side yard and built a dry creek bed that actually looks like part of the garden.

Alicia Moreno
★★★★★

The lighting plan was the part I did not know I wanted. The crew was careful with our existing beds and walked us through everything at the end.

Before you book

Questions worth asking early.

If your question is not here, ask it in the request. It is easier to answer before anything is drawn.

Landscape pricing depends on the design, the materials, the access and the site itself. The business will explain when it can give a proposal and what it needs to see first.
No. Many plans are built in phases. The business can explain how a plan could be split up and which parts make sense to do first.
A walk of the property, a conversation about how you want to use the space, and a look at sun, slope, drainage and access. The business will explain what follows from there.
Ask how equipment will reach the backyard. The business will explain the access route and how disturbed areas are restored.
Some projects, such as retaining walls, drainage changes or work near a property line, can be covered by local rules. Raise it in the request and the business will explain what applies.
New plantings need regular watering while they establish. The business will walk you through their care and can explain whether it offers ongoing maintenance.
