What this covers
Lawns that see foot traffic, play or heavy clay soil slowly compact until water runs off and roots stay shallow. Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil out of the lawn, letting air, water and nutrients reach the roots. The plugs break down on the surface on their own.
Overseeding right after aeration gives seed direct contact with soil, which is the best chance for new grass to take. For most cool-season lawns, fall is the usual window. Ask about the seed type for sun and shade, and how the new grass should be watered while it establishes.
