What this covers
Grinding itself is straightforward. The parts worth confirming beforehand are how deep you actually need to go, whether the machine can physically reach the stump, and what is buried in the grinding radius. Irrigation lines, invisible fencing, gas and electrical runs, and septic components all sit shallower than people assume.
Depth follows the plan for the spot. Turf over the top needs less than replanting a tree in the same position, which needs the root plate opened up considerably further. Grinding also produces far more chip volume than the stump suggests, so whether that material stays as backfill or gets carted off is worth deciding in advance.
Scope
| Confirmed first | Buried utilities and irrigation in the grinding radius, machine access width, and the depth the plan actually needs |
|---|---|
| Depth | Set by what happens next in that spot: turf, a bed, a hardscape, or a replacement tree |
| Arisings | Grinding produces more chip than expected. Backfilling or removing it is agreed in the scope. |
| Surface roots | Runs away from the stump are assessed as a separate item. |
How a request works
Say what the spot is for
Lawn, a bed, hardscape, or a new tree in the same position.
Access and utilities checked
The route in and what is buried nearby are confirmed before a machine is scheduled.
Ground and made good
Depth to the agreed level, with the chip handled the way you chose.
